Bristol Cathedral was founded in 1140 and consecrated in 1148. It was originally St Augustine's Abbey, but following the Dissolution of the Monasteries it became the seat of the newly created Bishop of Bristol and the cathedral of the new Diocese of Bristol in 1542. Some parts date back to the 12th century. It is a Grade I listed building.
The apparition of a monk in grey has been sighted at the Cathedral.
